So, I am a teching the show now. I’m doing the same thing I did last year, stage hand. Let’s see. We get to push onto stage a 350 pound (roughly) car. I got attacked by it while we were practicing, so I have a cut on my wrist now. That was two days ago.
We’re still trying to figure out who’s doing what and I personally think it’s unorganized. Very unorganized, but we’re being praised, so whatever. Maybe I’m just from UA. I got to pull a picnic bench (like a large one that should be carried by two people or more) onto stage by myself because no one else was there. Not sure what happened there. We seem to have a lot of car problems.
And I just feel like people don’t know their cues. I know I’m a horrid judge because I just don’t know, but yeah.
Had an interesting conversation today. One of the techies was painting a step and we were basically waiting for something to happen. They started talking about Halo and I said, I don’t believe it. I’m in a different continent and I’m hearing the same conversations I hear back home.
Then of course we went into the whole where are you from jazz. Then they were trying to figure out where Ohio was and I think they were saying something about it being near Arizona, which for all of those of you who don’t know is on the other side of the country.
I actually think one of the other techies is from the US too (he’s from Arizona, which is why they brought it up I’m guessing).
Other thing that made me laugh a little. Yesterday I was assigned the make the sign for the high school in Grease. And they wanted to have a shield in the background. But it had to look ‘American.’ Let me point out that American High schools don’t have shields on their signs. They have mascots. There is also no such thing as an American shield. Shields are British. They were also saying this right in front of me. And they were thinking of going to look on the internet (where they probably wouldn’t have found anything).
And I’m thinking to myself, I am American and seeing as there really isn’t an American shield, I might as well tell them what an American thinks a shield looks like. So, (seeing as I actually drew and painted it) I did it in the design of the crusaders (it even had the same colors. But that was on accident.) It had a red border with a reds cross through the middle and then white otherwise.
That’s the jazz for now.
Sarah, I think you need to get your dad to take a picture of the Grease sign you made, with the red border and red cross, and have him post it. I am having a hard time imagining this sign.
Have any of the school mates commented on “your accent”? (maybe they don’t notice.)
Also, I would say Ohio is closer to Washington DC than Arizona. Maybe you could place Ohio in context to some of the hurricanes, seems like there is one near Texas right now, which is way closer to Arizona than Ohio. ok, maybe scratch that hurricane idea.
