Sarah’s Journal 11.09.08

25 11 2008

Hey, look!  It’s only November and I’m writing again!  Well, don’t expect much.  So it was like a two hour drive and I was thinking it was totally not worth it to go so far out of our way.  And it was like raining.  And the road was bumpy.  And I was carsick…or horsesick or something.

So…This time we were not looking for one scene, no!  We’re above that.  We wouldn’t be satisfied by just one scene.  We wanted to see an entire kingdom!  Even if we couldn’t go inside it…Edoras

But it was awesome!  What was the last book kingdom you saw?  In person?  Yeah, I didn’t think so.  Alright.  Where did I go?  Where did our spectacular journey take us?  The might Edoras!  Still confused?  How about Rohan?  The whole country, Helms Deep, Theoden’s town on a hill, the whole shebang.

So, we were really kind of far off, but still.  You know Rohan is literally this hill in the middle of a plain.  How often do you see that?  Unfortunately, as we neared Rohan, our quest was halted.  Not by grand walls, but a creature from the deep and its lair.  The gravely road we followed plunged downward and into a massive lake our stead couldn’t hope of crossing.  Besides, we didn’t want to get eaten.

The lake was a mighty 4 feet by 4 feet and about a foot deep.  I’d like to see any of you cross it without getting eaten.  But we must turn away from the spectacle of nature and to the miracle of technology to get a better idea of what we saw.

            The Two Towers

            Disc 1

Scene: The King of the Golden Hall

Just start watching it.  And keep watching it.  (For those with VHS, if they even make LOTR in those…it’s when Gimli, Legolas, Aragorn and Gandalf the White are riding to Rohan and…look, there it is!  Gandalf says all dramatic like, “Edoras and the golden hall of Meduseld.”Massive Lake

You’ll get a couple flashes, okay a really long flash, to inside Theoden’s hall.  We can just skip that.  No one cares seeing as the buildings are no longer there.  Do, dah do…fastforward.  Hmm, well there is this scene with Eowyn (woman in white) standing at the edge of the hall and you can see these really awesome mountains in the background as this random flag rips off a post…

Well, that’s about it.  You can keep looking at the landscape and Helms Deep later, but we didn’t really see that up close, soooo…  But if you go back to the first movie, second disc and the scene were Frodo and others are about to enter the mines of Moria (okay, fine the scene’s called Moria and you’ll have to fastforward past Frodo and Gandalf the Grey’s conversation to get to it.  It is an extended scene, so I hope the monster’s on it…) and there’s this huge lake with this freakish creature in it that tries to eat Frodo.  That’s an idea of what our 4 feet by 4 feet lake looked like.

            Questions?  No?

The Quest for New Zealand’s Lord of the Rings by MEE!!! will return in January…I think.
